News from the Rowing Sheds

Mr Andrew Pinelli, Rowing Coordinator

All rowing families should have received an email earlier this week with additional details about the topics listed below. There is a form linked in the email for families to submit their responses.

It has been great to see so many of our rowers engaging with the gym sessions and on-water times during Term 2. It has also been great to see – and hear about – those rowers showcasing their skills in other sports during the winter break. Well done. To those parents and carers who have been around the sheds during winter, thank you for your assistance in doing some ‘tidying up’ in readiness for a busy 2026/2027 season.

School holiday gym

During the school holidays, we will offer two gym sessions per week on Tuesday and Thursday (drop-off by 6.15am. Sessions start at 6.30am) – cardio (ergs and bikes) and strength/conditioning (resistance training, stretching, core work). Students need to be picked up promptly around 7.30am.

Term 3 gym

Gym sessions will run in the morning again throughout Term 3. I understand that our rowers' circumstances can change, along with their preferred training days, so please complete the form to indicate which mornings your daughter would like to come down to the gym. Further details are provided on the form.

Rowing shoes

During the winter season, I have been negotiating with some suppliers to enable our rowers to purchase their own rowing shoes. Many families have expressed interest in this recently. By arranging a bulk purchase, we have been offered access to discounted pricing. This would also include the necessary purchase of the QRS (Quick Release System), which attaches to the shoes so they can be fitted to the rowing shells.

There is no expectation for families to purchase shoes; the Club will continue to provide shoes for all rowers, as we have done in the past. This is simply an opportunity for our families who wish to buy their own to benefit from a discounted, bulk order.

Times will be scheduled early next term for trying on shoes and paying the deposit.

Year 6 Try Rowing

Try Rowing for current Year 6 SMC students has been organised for Friday 21 August (Week 4 of next Term). This day is only successful with the assistance of coaches and our current SMC rowing families (and senior rowers). This is a preliminary request/notification of this event, which I will be organising during the school holidays. Any support would be greatly appreciated.

2026/2027 Regatta Calendar

There have been numerous meetings about the calendar for the next season. For those families who have been long associated with rowing, it will be a bit different. As soon as anything is confirmed, I will let you know the dates and venues.
