Alumni Pathways Panel

For their latest Pillars session on Wednesday 17 June, our Year 10 students heard from an inspiring panel of recent SMC graduates who are now studying or training across a diverse range of pathways.

We were thrilled to welcome alumni Jorja Geeves (Class of 2019), who is carving out a career in the local performing arts scene; Bella Metwari (Class of 2024), a trainee constable currently completing her training at the Tasmania Police Academy; and Olivia Walter (Class of 2024), a first-year paramedicine student at UTAS.

A huge thank you to our amazing alumni for so generously sharing their journeys since leaving St Mary's. Each panellist offered thoughtful insights into their pathways and plenty of practical advice to support our Year 10s as they begin considering their Year 11 subject selections.

It was also fantastic to have several Year 11 and 12 students join the session for a glimpse into life beyond school as they begin exploring their own next steps.

We are grateful to Jorja, Bella and Olivia for their time, encouragement and genuine willingness to guide our students.

Health Sciences Taster Day

On Monday 15 June, a number of Year 11 students attended the Health and Medical Sciences Taster Day, which offers a unique opportunity to visit the Medical Sciences Precinct in Hobart at the University of Tasmania and engage with staff across multiple disciplines, including biomedicine, nursing, paramedicine and medicine, in a day of activities.

Students enjoyed the opportunity to learn new skills, gain insight into the wide range of careers available in the health sector and experience a glimpse of university life — all of which is especially valuable as they consider their future study options.
