Southern Schools Futsal Championships
The College's Year 9 girls' futsal squads delivered an outstanding display of grit, skill and genuine sportsmanship at the recent Southern Schools Futsal Championships. In a fiercely competitive field, both teams fought their way into the semi-finals, showcasing disciplined defence, creative attacking play and unwavering support for one another throughout the day.

U14 State Hockey Championships
Over the June long weekend, the U14 State Championships hosted by Hockey Tasmania showcased some outstanding young talent. We're proud to share that the winning team featured three St Mary’s students, Maddie Stanton (Year 8), Sylvie Gundry (Year 7) and Sofie Klasen (Year 7), who all contributed strongly to their team's success. Their achievement reflects impressive skill, teamwork and commitment to their sport. Congratulations to all three students on this fantastic accomplishment!
Congratulations to the following students
Madeleine Marr (Year 11), who has achieved Highly Commended in the Senior Article section of the Young Voices Awards 2026. Her article, Eddie Mabo; A quest for change based upon faith', impressed the judges with its choice of important topic and connection to this year's theme: To go boldly: The path of faith and justice. Madeleine's piece will be published in the upcoming Spring edition of Australian Catholics. Well done on this wonderful accomplishment!
Clove Bell and Sophie Hawson-Cross (Year 9), who were selected to represent Tasmania at the upcoming School Sports Australia U15 Hockey Nationals in Melbourne. Well done, Clove and Sophie. The opportunity to represent Tasmania is a significant achievement, reflecting dedication, resilience and a strong commitment to training. We hope you both have fun and enjoy the experience – you've earned it!
Sister-duo, Jayne (Year 9) and Juliette Robinson (Year 5), whose dedication and talent have seen them selected for the 2026 Emeralds netball team, which will represent Tasmania at the Marie Little Shield tournament in Melbourne this September. This is Tasmania's third year competing in the event, which now features a team from every state and territory. We are very proud of Jayne and Juliette and wish them the best as they represent their home state on the national stage.
We love celebrating the achievements of our students! Share your stories and photos with us at stmarys@smc.tas.edu.au, and your child’s success will be featured in an upcoming edition of The Fountain newsletter.
