Year 3 Update

Our Learning-Weeks 7 & 8
English
- Students will continue to read the novel of Brindabella and use this text to write diary entries from a character's point of view that includes detailed settings, character traits and the emotions the character may be feeling.
- Students will use their narrative writing skills to write short literary adaptations including a beginning that sets the scene, introduces characters and then leads into the middle of the narrative to reveal a main problem, followed by the solution to the problem and then conclude with an ending.
- Students will continue to build their understanding of sentence structure by learning and using simple, compound and complex sentences correctly.
- Students will learn the meaning of the sufix 'super' and apply this knowledge when reading and spelling new words.
- Students will use the base word of 'form' to add pervious sufixes and prefixes to and apply this knowledge when reading and spelling new words.
Maths
- Students will begin to explore the concept of Time.
- Students will refresh their memories of 'duration', 'o'clock' and 'half past'.
- Students will learn how to tell the time to the minute using both anologue and digital clocks.
SEL
- Students are learning to understand rights and responsibilities and how they connect to respect.
- Students will be able to explain the difference between a right and a responsibility and give examples of each.
- Students will give examples of how their actions affect others.
Inquiry
- Students will continue to learn about Australian colonisation and settlement from different perspectives, particularly the Aboriginal perspective.
Events and Reminders
PJ's Day - Friday 19th June. Children can come dressed in their favourite pair of pyjamas and enjoy a relaxing day with movie. A gold coin donation would be appreciated to raise funds for the Kids Help Line.
Home work - All children should now be in a good routine for completing homework. The homework consists of a fluency reading passage and times table practice.
Drink Bottles - Please remind your child to bring a drink bottle to school daily so that they have easy access during class learning time.
