Our Learning for Term 2, Weeks 8 & 9

Over the past two weeks, we have been busy assessing students' learning, tracking their progress and preparing Semester 1 reports. It has been wonderful to see the growth students have made across all learning areas, and there have been many pleasing results to celebrate. We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience and confidence students have shown throughout the semester. With your continued support at home, we look forward to seeing even further growth, independence and confidence as we move into Term 3.

Just a friendly reminder that our Milo Monkey Birthday Celebration is coming up in Week 10! Your child was sent home with their invitation last week.

Please remember that students only need to bring one item listed on their invitation to help us celebrate. Students are invited to come dressed as their favourite character from a Milo Monkey book or wear their best party outfit. We are looking forward to a fun-filled day celebrating the completion of learning all of our letter sounds and recognising the amazing effort students have put into their literacy learning throughout the year.

We can't wait to celebrate this special milestone with them!

In English, students will:

  • learn to read and write phonemes Stage 2 and 3 letter-sounds and identify these sounds in simple CVC words.

  • identify and say first, middle and final sounds in different words.

  • segment and blend CVC words and sentences.

  • begin to spell words and write short sentences more independently using their awareness of letter sounds.

  • identify what makes a sentence and identify adjectives, nouns and verbs.

  • sequence and retell events in the order they occur in different stories.

  • predict what will happen in a story.

  • make text to self-connections and identify main ideas in a text.
  • infer details about a character or event using clues from pictures in a book.

In Maths, students will:

  • continue to use the 100 days of school chart to count and order numbers. Not many to go now!
  • continue to develop their addition strategies including:

    • using ninja belts to show and explain combinations of numbers up to 10.
    • sort objects by different features and explain their reasoning.
    • identify and describe attributes of different shapes.
    • compare different lengths of objects.

In Inquiry, students will explore:

  • the difference between the past and the present and how they have changed over time.

In SEL, students will:

  • remember and practise our classroom and school routines.
  • recognise strategies to self-calm themselves when they are sad or mad
  • practise help-seeking conversations

News and Reminders:

  • Week 9: Friday 19th June - SRC Fundraising Day. Pyjama Day. See classroom window displays for details.
  • Week 10: Wednesday 24th June. Milo Monkey's Birthday.
  • Week 10: Friday 26th June: Last day of Term 2. Reports go live on Compass.
  • Library books. Remember to return library books on your child's library day.
  • Readers. Please continue to support your child by reading with them each day. As they learn new letters, sounds and words, regular practice helps build their confidence and improve their reading skills. Please ensure that when you read, you record this in their phonics books. This helps your child's teacher to acknowledge, celebrate and support your child's development further.
  • Stay Updated on Your Child’s Learning. Please check Compass regularly to see information about your child’s assessments and progress. Compass also keeps you informed about important events and any changes at school.
