Year 5 Update

It has been an action-packed fortnight in Year 5! Our very first overnight camp to Sovereign Hill was an unforgettable experience. Although we were met with plenty of rain, it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits—students were having so much fun learning about Australian history that the weather hardly mattered!
While at Sovereign Hill, students immersed themselves in life in the 1850s. Highlights included the spectacular Aura night show, a gold pouring demonstration, sweet making, candle dipping, and an exciting mine tour. Students also participated in an education program where they learned about the Eureka Rebellion and experienced what daily life was like during the gold rush era. Of course, there was also some time to enjoy a little shopping! A massive thank you to all of the staff who attended camp and helped make this experience so special for our students.
Back at school, students demonstrated fantastic house pride at our Athletics Day, enthusiastically participating in a range of events and cheering on their teammates.
In the classroom, we wrapped up our text study of Music for Tigers alongside our narrative writing unit, and have now begun an exciting poetry unit, along with our new text study of Bindi. In Mathematics, we concluded our multiplication unit and have started exploring fractions. Students have also been working hard to complete a range of end-of-semester assessments.
Reminder:
Pyjama Day - Friday 19th June. Children can come dressed in their favourite pair of pyjamas and enjoy a relaxing day with movie. A gold coin donation would be appreciated to raise funds for the Kids Help Line.
It has been a busy and exciting time in Year 5, and we are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, resilience, and engagement our students continue to show as they embrace every new learning opportunity.
