Hello Year 5 families!

English
Over the last two weeks, we have been learning some amazing facts about space and our solar system. In term 2, the first four weeks will focus on economics. Through our text, Understanding Economics, we will learn about needs and wants, resources, and other economic concepts. Alongside learning about economics, students will create a product, write a pitch, and present it to the class. We are looking forward to hearing some amazing ideas.
After economics, we will be studying the text The Silver Donkey by Sonya Hartnett. Please purchase a copy of this text for your child to bring to school, ready for the start of this unit.
Mathematics
In Year 5 Mathematics, we have finished our unit on Multiplication and Division. Our students have enjoyed using these skills to solve problems, and with division, we have been able to show remainders as whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. We are moving on to Perimeter as our next unit of study. This is the length of a 2D shape boundary. It is calculated by adding the lengths of all sides.
Over the holidays, the maths teachers would love you to work with your child on times table fluency. The ability to solve times-table problems quickly will greatly benefit their studies in maths, not only now but also in the future.
