Prep

Last week, the Prep students explored working with clay by creating their own clay discs, engaging in a fun and hands-on learning experience. As they rolled, flattened, and shaped the clay, they developed important fine motor skills and hand strength, which support early writing development. Students also learned how to follow step-by-step instructions while experimenting with techniques such as smoothing, pressing, and decorating their discs with patterns and textures.

Grade 1 & 2

For the last 2 weeks, Grade 1 and 2 students have been creating artwork inspired by a famous artist called Pete Cromer. They used water paint and collage techniques to create a seal or fox artwork, exploring both colour and texture. Through painting, cutting, and layering materials, they developed fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Students also built their understanding of colour, texture, and composition while making creative choices about how to arrange their pieces. These lessons helped students build creativity and confidence as they made choices about colours and shapes.

Here are some great examples from 1F, 1H & 2A, 2J

Grade 3

Last week, students experimented with water paints and fine black markers to design both small and large insects, bringing them to life through colour and detailed patterns. They used a range of lines and repeated designs to create texture and visual interest, while also considering size and proportion in their work. This activity helped strengthen their fine motor skills, encouraged creativity, and deepened their understanding of key art elements.

Grade 4

Last week, Grade 4 students created detailed landscape artworks inspired by the style of Marina Ester Castaldo, exploring how colour, texture, and composition can bring a scene to life. They carefully planned and layered their work to include depth and intricate details, using a range of techniques to capture natural elements of a beach or lake landscape.

Grade 5

Last week, Grade 5 students wrapped up their endangered animal artworks, refining details and adding final touches to complete their pieces. They then began a new project exploring one-point perspective, using a horizontal and vertical line to guide their drawings. Students developed their scenes by adding detailed background elements and depth, before bringing their work to life with watercolour paints.

Wow! Look at these examples from 5J!

Grade 6

Over the past three weeks, Grade 6 students have been creating artworks inspired by Carmen Hui, blending native Australian plants with everyday household items. They carefully replicated their chosen object with accuracy, while incorporating detailed plants and thoughtful composition to produce unique pieces that creatively connect nature with familiar objects.
