Hello families and friends,

We can't believe term 1 is done. It is amazing thinking back on all the great things the grade 1's have achieved.

Our learning:

Literacy:

This term we have learnt so many new phonics sounds. We have focused on ai, ay, ee, ea, --y (happy), igh, ie, -y (sky), and oa. We have also learnt about contractions and the prefix un- and suffix -ing. 

We are excited to continue on our phonics journey next term and learn new phonemes. Remember to log into the Little Learners app to continue helping your child's reading fluency.  app.llllonline,com 

In writing, we have been loving learning all about ancient Egypt. We have been exploring pyramids, mummification, gods and goddesses, Egyptian writing, and Tutankhamun. Grade 1's have been using their knowledge to create sentences and increase their reading comprehension skills.

Numeracy:

In maths, we are continuing to learn about addition and subtraction. We have been looking at part-part-whole relationships and exploring them through tens frames, dominoes, number bonds, and bar models.

Wellbeing:

We have been looking at the zones of regulation and stress management techniques. The Zones of Regulation is a important way we can view different emotions we have.

• Blue - Low energy e.g. sad.
• Green - Comfortable e.g. ready to learn
• Yellow - Full of energy and unsettled e.g. feeling silly, confused, frustrated, excited or worried.
• Red - Intense and heightened e.g. angry.

Homework:

• Remember to log into the Little Learners app to continue helping your child's reading fluency.

• We will be reading Aesop fables early next term. Can you find any Aesop Fables you may already know or find any at your local library. Some well known fables include 'The Boy who Cried Wolf' and 'The Tortoise and the Hare'.

   

Dojo Awards:

Congratulations to the grade 1 students that have already earned 75 dojo points and received their Bronze certificate.
