A message from our principal

Dear students, parents, carers and staff,

We have reached the end of another enriching term at Sunbury College, and I would like to take a moment to reflect on our collective achievements and the dedication that has made them possible.

This term has been filled with academic growth, extra-curricular successes, and a strong sense of community spirit. Our students have demonstrated resilience and commitment in their learning, while our teachers and staff have worked tirelessly to provide support and inspiration. From classroom excellence, to sports, the arts, and leadership initiatives, we have seen remarkable efforts from all corners of the College.

There are many individual and collective reasons to celebrate. I have chosen just two here, though this could have been many, many more.

Sunbury College celebrated Cultural Day on Friday 28 March with the Student Leadership Team facilitating the day to acknowledge and celebrate our school’s valued multicultural communities. Students were invited to dress in a way that represented their cultural heritage and had the opportunity to browse through cultural market stalls. A special mention to Ayisha Abou-Eid, Chloe Heazlewood, Chelsea Spiers, Rowan O’Reilly, Georgia Gleeson, Lachlan Bullows, Zoe Fenton, Ella Rapetti, Elissa Georgiou, Elizabeth Crump, Noah Hartney, Charlie Hynes, Michaela Bench, and Addison Lew on going above and beyond in contributing to the success of the day. All proceeds from the day will be donated to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

I would also like to highlight the endeavor shown by Year 12 student George Saristavros who has been working hard to achieve his goals both at school and in his personal life. George was chosen by South Melbourne FC to compete in the Senior Cup with some of the best senior soccer teams in the state earlier this term. His under 23s team did extremely well with George securing their spot in the grand final by scoring 2 goals in a 2-1 win. They proceeded to the grand final and won against Port Melbourne FC 4-2 where George assisted 1 goal and scored 1 goal, helping them win the Greek Community Cup. It was one of the highlights of his soccer career.

I extend my sincere gratitude to our parents and guardians for their unwavering support, which plays a vital role in our students’ success. Your involvement and encouragement continue to strengthen the Sunbury College community.

As we take a well-earned break, I encourage everyone to rest, recharge, and return with renewed enthusiasm for the next term. Let’s carry forward our values of respect, responsibility, resilience, and endeavor into all that we do.

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable holiday.
