Year 9 and 10

Middle School

With Term 1 coming to an end, it is important to reflect on the amazing achievements and experiences our Middle Years students have been involved in. This term students have had so many wonderful opportunities to explore what the College has to offer, as well as the wider community and Melbourne CBD.

Firstly, the Middle School Coordinators Ms Polonidis, Ms. Erkou & Ms. Harris, Middle School Leader Ms. Beardmore and Middle School Assistant Principal Ms. Annetts would like to congratulate all the students who have maintained 100% attendance across the term, and those students who were Sub School Work Habit Rating award winners recognised at the end of term assembly. These students have consistently demonstrated the College values of Endeavour, Respect, Responsibility and Resilience each day. We look forward to seeing you all drive to achieve continued success, and celebrate and reward these achievements with our Middle School community throughout the year.

Year 9

Tugba Erkocu and Rachel Harris

As we near the end of Term 1, our Year 9 students should be proud of the excellent start they've made to 2025. The first Work Habit Ratings were recently released, and students have engaged thoughtfully in reflecting on their progress and setting new goals during Pastoral Care sessions. We enjoyed seeing many of our students and their families at the recent Parent Teacher Interviews on Tuesday, 2nd April.

We’ve also been pleased to see an improvement in students coming to class prepared and ready to learn. This positive shift has been fantastic, and we’d like to acknowledge both our students and their families for their support in making this happen. Additionally, our Year 9s demonstrated the College values of Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Endeavour throughout NAPLAN - well done!

Outside the classroom, we’d like to congratulate our Year 9 volleyball players and cricketers for their participation in interschool sports this term. It’s fantastic to see so many students representing Sunbury College with pride.

Finally, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank Ms E for her hard work and dedication this term. We wish her all the best as she begins her family leave and prepares for the arrival of her baby.

Year 10

Christine Polonidis

Year 10s have continued to have a busy term, managing their academic commitments while also finalising their work experience placements for Term 2. We have had some exciting excursions happen, with students being able to apply their in class learning to the real world.

The Year 10 Outdoor Education class drove down to Apollo Bay to walk along the Great Ocean Walk. The class hiked 10km on the first day whilst travelling along the beach and tracks. On the second day, the class walked 12km along some tracks through the Otway National Park wet forest and camped at Blanket Bay on the beach. The camp was finished off with some surfing in Lorne before heading back to school. We want to thank our students for upholding the school values and leaving the campsite in a better condition than when they arrived and to those students who did an additional 3km hike to ensure that the entire group had enough water for the coming days.

Our Year 10 Geography class took to the streets of Melbourne to discover how Docklands has changed over the last 150 years and collected valuable data that contributed to their Fieldwork Report. The Year 10s stopped at eight locations and analysed that area’s level of sustainability and how the area had changed over time to accommodate the vastly growing population.

We’d like to wish all middle school students and their families a restful break over the Easter holidays, and look forward to seeing you in Term 2.
