Year 11 and 12

Senior School
It has been a busy end to Term 1. The Coordinators have enjoyed getting to know our students and look forward to continuing to support them through 2025. We wish you all a safe and productive break so that all students return from the holiday refreshed and ready to learn. As always, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s coordinator if you have any concerns.
Year 11
Hannah Ryan and Tom Payne
We congratulate our Year 11s on making it through their first term of VCE. VCE is a two year certificate and it is important that students develop strong habits early on so they can achieve their best. By now our Year 11 VCE and VCE VM students will have completed the first outcomes in all of their subjects. We encourage you to access Compass to view their results and to discuss their progress with them. We hope those of you that attended our conferences this week were able to have helpful discussions with your child’s teachers and feel well positioned to continue to support them succeed.
We have had lots of Year 11 pairs sign up to take part in the Sunbury College Presentation Balls for 2025. Details for this year’s Year 11 Formal will be shared early next term. We look forward to sharing these much anticipated events with you.
Excursions
Year 11 Geography
In week 6 of Term 1, the Year 11 Geography class took part in their first fieldwork trip. Students spent the morning exploring the local waterways and creeks to gain an understanding of how rain and weather can impact people and the environment downstream. Students established that if Sunbury and surrounding townships experience high rainfall, it will have the potential to cause a hazard in places like Maribyrnong. There was much enjoyment during the day with the chance for students to apply some of their geographical knowledge and understanding.
Year 12
Kylie Smith and Sally Tymensen
What an incredible start to 2025! As we reflect on Term 1, it’s clear that you’ve all come together as a dynamic and motivated cohort, showing commitment and positive energy toward your studies. Your enthusiasm and drive are already shining through, and it's inspiring to see how you've embraced this pivotal year.
Throughout this term, you’ve not only made meaningful connections with your teachers but have also built strong relationships with one another, making it a wonderful Year 12 community. The connections you’re forming with your teachers, staff and TAFE will be invaluable in the months ahead, as you continue to work closely together, developing the skills and knowledge necessary for success.
As we look ahead to Terms 2 and 3, our morning PC sessions will continue to focus on starting our day prepared and ready to learn, with uniform checks, equipment checks and ensuring diaries are on us at all times being part of this focus. Diaries are an essential part of ensuring preparedness and organisation, allowing you to be prepared for assessments and timetable your study routine in and around your extracurricular activities.
Towards the end of Term 1 you’ve been encouraged to have your say in shaping the direction of PC sessions for the remainder of the year. Your feedback, ideas, and reflections are more than welcome as we plan and implement opportunities that will enhance your Year 12 experience and the programs included in the morning PC sessions and the full period PC sessions.
With the days getting shorter and cooler please be reminded that hoodies and long sleeve undergarments are NOT part of the uniform and cannot be worn underneath the school uniform.
As we continue this journey together, remember that you are not alone. We’re all in this together – your teachers, your peers, your co-ordinators and the wider school community are here to support you every step of the way. Let’s continue to make the most of this amazing year, stay focused on your goals, and work together to create lasting memories and achievements.
Here’s to an exciting and successful Year 12 journey ahead!
Excursions
Year 12 Physics
On March 4th, Year 12 Physics students experienced the excitement of physics in action at Luna Park’s annual Physics Day. The event was designed to bring textbook concepts to life, allowing students to explore circular motion, acceleration, and real-world applications of Newton’s laws through hands-on experiences with amusement park rides.
The day was educational and an unforgettable adventure, reinforcing the importance of physics in everyday life. Students left with a deeper appreciation for science—and maybe even a new favourite ride!
