Principal Team's Message

Our Assistant Principals reflect on Term One so far

Term 1 Celebrations

This term, we have celebrated Harmony Week and our inaugural Culture Day which recognises and celebrates growing diversity in the cultural backgrounds of our College community. These are important days for promoting inclusion and a sense of belonging for all students, staff, and families. The bell music, messages in Pastoral Care sessions, music performances and food stands run by staff and students championed the importance and value of these days. It was great to see so many students enjoying the events and discussing the significance of these days with peers and teachers.

NAPLAN

All NAPLAN tests have now been completed by students in Year 7 and 9, and the results will be made available to parents later in the year. Students’ behaviour was exceptional throughout the test sessions, and we’d like to congratulate them all for the endeavour and responsibility they showed. Changes to timetables, rooms and usual lessons can be disruptive, but all the students affected by these alterations managed the disruptions with maturity and responsibility.

Uniform

As Term 1 draws to an end, the weather will start to turn cooler and we remind students and their families that undergarments worn for extra warmth cannot be visible as per the College Dress Code. Students should check their current uniform to make sure they have the items needed.

Students are NOT permitted to wear non-uniform items to and from school and whilst at school.

At times, a minority of our students have been found to be wearing non-school items, including hoodies and track pants that are not Sunbury College issue. Wearing the uniform correctly sends a strong message about school pride and promotes a sense of belonging for our students.  Pastoral Care teachers will continue to follow up students who present to school in incorrect uniform, and support students who may need to purchase additional uniform items. Where a student is seen out of uniform, they will be respectfully asked to remove this and, in some cases, issued an appropriate consequence.

We recognise and thank the majority of students and their families who continue to support the school’s efforts to maintain and enhance school pride and our values by wearing the College uniform correctly.

The College uniform can be purchased from the PSW shop located at 6/106-110 Gap Rd, Sunbury (lower level opposite Aldi).

Parent Student Teacher Conferences

We thank all the parents and guardians who attended the Parent Student Teacher conferences held on Tuesday 1st April, and those who reached out to teachers for feedback if they were unable to attend conferences. Providing students and their families with the opportunity to gather feedback and reflect upon successes and areas for improvement is an important part of working in partnership with parents and guardians. By discussing students’ learning with them and their parents and guardians, we can continue to provide support so that students are able to realise their goals for their educational and wellbeing outcomes.

Our second cycle of Work Habit Reports will be released on Friday 2nd May, which is at the end of week 2 in Term 2.

Monday afternoon Study Club

Each Monday afternoon from 3:15pm, students can access the Hub and undertake study and homework for their respective subjects. Teachers from a range of subjects volunteer their time to be on hand for students who would like some one on one assistance and/or work in small groups.

Students are supported to develop habits around the completion of homework tasks and in preparing for assessment. A big thank you to all of the teachers who have volunteered their time in Term 1, and to the students who have shown endeavour and dedication to their learning through attending.
