Year 11 Geography Excursion – Hills Discovery Centre

On Friday, March 21, Year 11 ATAR Geography students participated in an excursion to the Hills Discovery Centre in Mundaring. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to observe the impact of bushfires on both natural landscapes and human communities.

As part of their fieldwork activities, students measured fuel loads and assessed canopy cover at sites affected by both wildfires and prescribed burns. This data allowed students to analyse biodiversity levels and better understand the role of prescribed burns in reducing bushfire risks.

To conclude the day, students visited Mundaring Weir, where they enjoyed the scenic views of the Darling Scarp. The excursion was both informative and enjoyable. A special thank you goes to Ms. Kippen for driving the bus and for her time and support throughout the day.
