GROK Academy Intermediate Python Competition: Celebrating Excellence in Computer Science
This morning, like many of us, you probably woke to the sound of an alarm on your phone or device. Perhaps you checked the weather, played a quick game of Candy Crush, emailed a teacher about an assignment, or added a special Easter treat to your shopping cart. But have you ever stopped to think about the countless lines of code that power all these activities and applications?
It’s easy to take for granted the technology we use daily, but behind each tap, swipe, and click, there are dedicated individuals or teams of developers who make it all possible. So, the next time you hit the snooze button on your alarm, take a moment to appreciate the programming that makes that simple action possible.
This semester, our Year 12 Computer Science ATAR students put their coding skills to the test by participating in the GROK Academy Intermediate Python Competition. Spanning over five weeks, the competition challenged students to complete 32 modules, each with a unique challenge requiring a Python coding solution. With each challenge successfully completed, students earned points that were tallied to determine their final score.
The competition was not just local; it attracted bright young minds from across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia. And we are incredibly proud to announce that one of our very own Year 12 Student, Samuel Bell, placed in the top 60 of all competitors in this prestigious international competition.
Samuel demonstrated outstanding dedication, completing all 32 modules and solving every challenge with precision, earning a perfect score of 290 points. His achievement highlights not only his exceptional coding skills but also the hard work and determination that he has put into mastering Python.
We look forward to seeing where his coding journey will take him next!
