LITERACY

In Literacy, we have begun reading The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. As we enjoy this wonderful novel, students are developing their comprehension skills by making predictions, asking questions, exploring vocabulary, and making inferences. We are also focusing on identifying character traits and using evidence from the text to support our thinking.

Alongside our novel study, we continue to build strong literacy skills through our daily routines. Students participate in daily spelling, grammar, and punctuation lessons, as well as reading fluency practice to develop accuracy and expression. We also dedicate time to handwriting, typing, and independent reading each week, helping students become confident, capable readers and writers. Our daily literacy reviews provide opportunities to revise and strengthen key skills learned throughout the year.

MATHS

In Maths, our learning has focused on developing a strong understanding of fractions. Students have explored how fractions represent equal parts of a whole by drawing and identifying shaded fractions, learning the difference between the numerator and denominator, locating and comparing fractions on a number line, counting by fractions, working with mixed numbers, and finding fractions of a collection. We also continue to strengthen our number fluency through daily operation practice and maths reviews, helping students build confidence, accuracy, and efficiency with their number skills.

HUMANITIES

In Humanities, our learning has a Science focus as we explore what it means to be a scientist. We have challenged common stereotypes by discovering that scientists work in many different fields and come from diverse backgrounds. Students are becoming scientists themselves by asking questions, making predictions, conducting experiments, observing carefully, and sharing their findings. So far, we have investigated how cream changes into butter by exploring the physical changes that occur during the process, and compared how different types of chocolate melt to learn about thermal conductivity. These hands-on investigations have encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry.

FRENCH DAY

Last Tuesday, our students enjoyed celebrating French Day! A huge thank you to Mrs L and her team for organising such a wonderful day filled with engaging activities. Students dressed up for the occasion and participated in a range of fun experiences, including a French circus incursion, miming, soccer, pétanque, and creating Vive la France! rosette crafts. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about French language and culture while having lots of fun.
