Year 1/2

Welcome back to an already busy Term 3!

In Literacy, we have been reading The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The story is about a pilot who crashes in the Sahara Desert and meets a little prince, who tells him about his journeys to different planets. As we read, we have been creating our own Little Prince Passports, recording interesting facts about each planet the Little Prince visits.

In Phonics, our Grade 2 students have been learning about the Great Australian Schwa. A schwa is a weak vowel sound that often sounds like "uh".

For example:

Our Grade 1 students have been learning the trigraph /ore/, as in morestore and shore. They have been practising reading and writing words with this spelling pattern.

A friendly reminder: Don't forget to bring your reader to school every week, so we can change it  over.

Thank you for your continued support!

Maths

In Maths students have begun their multiplication and measurement units. Students have been learning how to skip count by 2's, 5's and 10's to count a collection, and learning how to use repeated addition to calculate multiplication problems.

In measurement, students have been learning how to use informal units of measurement to find the length and width of objects. Students were given the challenge to measure items in their classroom with a paper clip! Students have also been learning about capacity and volume. They looked at different size containers, and used water to measure their capacity to see which ones held more and less.

Within our maths daily review, students are continuing to practice double digit addition, subtraction and revising shape.

Students also investigated push and pull forces, creating Venn diagrams to sort objects according to how they move. They also followed the scientific process to explore gravity by making paper helicopters, they predicted what would happen and discussed their observations.

4Rs

In 4Rs, students played a fun game that involved pretend life rafts and a shark which encouraged cooperation and helping others. They discussed how friends can support each other and practised positive ways to help a friend experiencing a problem through scenarios cards and role play.

French Day

Students had a ball at French day!
