Term 3- Week 3
As we move through Term 3, it has been wonderful to see our school continuing to buzz with learning, enthusiasm and a strong sense of community. Our classrooms have been filled with rich learning experiences, students have embraced new challenges with confidence, and there have been many opportunities for families to connect with school life.
Before looking ahead, I would like to sincerely thank our school community for your understanding and support during the recent industrial action. We recognise that these disruptions can have a significant impact on families, requiring changes to work, childcare and daily routines. We greatly appreciate your patience, flexibility and ongoing support of our staff and school throughout this time. The strength of our school community is evident in the way we continue to work together, even during challenging circumstances.
This edition of the newsletter celebrates some of the many exciting events taking place across our school. From the fun and cultural learning of French Day to the valuable conversations that take place during our Parent Teacher Conferences, there is much to celebrate. We also acknowledge a very special milestone for our youngest learners as our Prep students reach their 100th day of school—a wonderful achievement that marks just how much they have grown since beginning their school journey.
Looking ahead, the remainder of the term promises to be just as exciting, with Book Week, the inaugural Moriac House Spelling Bee, our Colour Run and other important events on the horizon, including our upcoming Pupil Free Day on Tuesday 18 August. We encourage families to take note of the key dates and continue to engage with the many opportunities our school community has to offer.
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership with Moriac Primary School. It is through the strong relationship between home and school that we are able to create an engaging, stimulating and supportive learning environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
What a great day the students had celebrating all things French! A highlight was definitely the French Circus incursion which all students across the school enjoyed. We learnt how to juggle many different items, working in pairs with each other all the while practising our French language. Our presenters were both native to France and utilised a great deal of the French language for the whole session. Thank you to Mrs Lumsden for her coordination of this fantastic day!

What a great celebration so far of our Preps and how far they have come. 100 days of learning in our school environment, it sure does fly by. Thank you to all the families for their efforts and supports with their little outfits, they all looked adorable and seeing them hobble in with their walking sticks this morning put a smile on many a face!

Book Week is always one of the most colourful and exciting events on our school calendar, and we can't wait to celebrate the joy of reading together once again. We look forward to welcoming our families to our annual Book Week Parade at 9:15am on Friday 28 August, where our students will showcase their wonderful costumes inspired by their favourite book characters. We are also delighted to welcome our local kindergarten friends to join in the festivities. As always, there will be prizes awarded for the best costume in each year level, making it a fun and memorable celebration for everyone involved. We encourage all students to get creative and join in the excitement!
The theme this year - 2026 is a Symphony of Stories!

The 2026 Children’s Book Week theme is ‘Symphony of Stories’.
Our talented illustrator is the fabulous Briony Stewart, award-winning author-illustrator of ‘Gymnastica Fantastica’ and other children’s books. Just wait until you meet all the wild characters she’s created.
‘I decided to try and show what stepping into a symphony of stories might be like. A huge colourful collection of characters bursting out of a book representing their different stories with weird and wonderful instruments.’ – Briony Stewart

Our annual Moriac House Spelling Bee will be held on Friday 7 August and is always a fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves while having fun. Students from each year level are invited to participate in this traditional spelling competition, where they will test their spelling skills in front of their peers. There will be prizes awarded to the winners in each year level, and we encourage all students to have a go. We look forward to another exciting event that celebrates learning, confidence and a love of words! Information regarding this event is coming soon with the grand final open to families who may wish to attend.

As we begin planning for the 2027 school year, we are already working on forecasting student numbers, staffing and budgeting to ensure we can provide the best possible learning opportunities for all students.
If your family is planning to move, your child will be leaving Moriac Primary School at the end of the year, or you are considering an extended family holiday that may impact your child's attendance, we would greatly appreciate you letting us know as early as possible. Early communication helps us make informed decisions about class structures, staffing and resource allocation.
Likewise, if you know of families moving into the area who may be interested in enrolling at Moriac Primary School, please encourage them to contact our office. We are always happy to answer questions, provide information and arrange a school tour.
We understand that family circumstances can change, and we appreciate that plans are not always final. However, any information you can provide, even if it is tentative, is extremely helpful as we plan for another successful year at Moriac Primary School.
Have a great weekend,
Melissa Maccora
