Term 3 half way already!

It has been amazing to see our Prep students demonstrating just how much they have learnt! Now that they have learnt their letters and established strong segmenting and blending skills, everything is beginning to come together in their reading and writing. It is wonderful to see their growing confidence and the joy they experience when they recognise just how much they can now do independently.

Our excursion to Moonlit Sanctuary was a great success. Despite the weather, nothing could dampen the children’s enthusiasm—or the animals’! The students had a fantastic day exploring and learning about Australian animals.

Following our excursion, the children have loved learning more about different animals, including their features, diets and habitats. They enthusiastically put their learning into action by creating their own animal dioramas featuring a cockatoo, snake, emu, koala or wombat. We have loved seeing their creativity and knowledge come together.

There is still so much to look forward to this term, including our swimming program, Book Week parade and dress-up day, and Fathers and Special Others Day. We can’t wait to share all these special experiences with our wonderful Preps!

Our Learning - Term 3 Weeks 5 & 6

In English, students will: learn to read and write phonemes Stage 5 letter-sounds. identify and say first, middle and final sounds in different words. segment and blend CCVC and CVCC words and unfamiliar words to create short sentences with independence. continue to punctuate sentences. continue to identify and use adjectives, nouns and verbs in their own sentences. continue to explore and create their own information texts. identify facts and opinions in a text and write facts about different animals. continue to identify the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts. make predictions, text to self-connections and text to text-connections in different texts. infer details about a character or event using clues from pictures in a book.
In Maths, students will: continue developing their knowledge of subtraction by: using correct vocabulary (eg: take away, fewer, less, count back, how many are left or remain). identifying symbols and their meaning (- and =) and understanding how subtraction differs from addition. continue to revisit and practice place value of 2-digit numbers by: making and counting stacks of tens. identifying tens and ones. identifying numbers without counting them one by one (subitising) counting to 20 and beyond. identifying one more, two more and one less, two less than different 1 and 2 digit numbers.
In Inquiry, students will: observe features in our local environment. learn that places can change over time. how places can be cared for represent places using pictures and maps
In SEL, students will: learn how to keep our bodies safe by using No, Go, Tell. learn to tell the difference between safe (keep) secrets and unsafe (tell) secrets. solve problems by thinking, talking and helping each other.

Readers. Please continue to support your child by reading with them each day. As they learn new letters, sounds and words, regular practice helps build their confidence and improve their reading skills. Please ensure that when you read, you record this in their phonics books. This helps your child's teacher to acknowledge, celebrate and support your child's development further.
Library books. Remember to return library books on your child's library day.
