It's been another busy and rewarding few weeks in Year 6! From engaging classroom learning to hands-on experiences, we're proud to share some of the highlights from our students' journey.
Alkira Production
Our Year 6 students had a fantastic time attending a rehearsal of Alkira Secondary College's production of Mamma Mia! Students were treated to the first half of the show and loved seeing the talented performers bring the music, characters and story to life. It was a fun and entertaining experience enjoyed by all!
Interschool Sport
Our Year 6 students are well into their preparations for the upcoming Lightning Premiership, continuing to build their skills and teamwork through interschool sport each Friday. It has been wonderful to see all students getting active, supporting their teammates and demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship. We look forward to seeing them put their skills into action in a few weeks!
Tournament of Minds
On the 15th, a group of our students had the exciting opportunity to participate in Tournament of Minds at Deakin University. Tournament of Minds is a problem-solving program that challenges students to think creatively, work collaboratively and develop skills in teamwork, time management and critical thinking. Our students worked together to tackle their challenge and present their solution in a competitive environment. We are incredibly proud of the creativity, confidence and teamwork they demonstrated while representing our school!
Learning Snapshot
Our Year 6 students continue to be busy and engaged across all areas of their learning.
English: Students are continuing their novel study of Help Around the House by Morris Gleitzman. They are developing their comprehension and analytical skills by exploring characters, relationships, themes and key events, while using evidence from the text to support their thinking.
Mathematics: Our focus remains on division, with students developing efficient mental and written strategies to solve increasingly complex problems. Students are also applying their skills to real-world and worded problems and learning to interpret remainders appropriately.
SEL: Students are continuing to explore positive gender relations, with a focus on building respectful, inclusive and equitable relationships. Through discussion and activities, students are considering how their words, actions and choices can contribute to positive relationships with others.
Inquiry: Our Civics and Citizenship learning has progressed to exploring the three levels of government in Australia – local, state and federal. Students are investigating the different responsibilities of each level and learning how they work together to provide services and make decisions that impact our everyday lives.
