Term 3, Weeks 5 & 6

A Snapshot of Our Learning in Term 3:

English

Throughout Weeks 5 and 6, students have continued developing their handwriting and typing fluency, practising horizontal joins with v, w, b, r and o, while also working on their typing accuracy and pace.
In Literacy Skills, students have strengthened their understanding of apostrophes for possession, adverbs of manner, dependent clauses and past, present and future tense. They have also practised using speaker tags before and after direct speech and continued developing their editing skills using ARMS and CUPS.
Our Ancient Greece unit has continued through the text Greek Myths: Three Heroic Tales. Students have explored ancient myths and characters, including Demeter, Persephone and Zeus, and considered how characters use power and the consequences of their actions. Students have also brought together their learning about Ancient Greece to plan, draft, edit and publish an information report, using appropriate structure, vocabulary and language features.

Maths

Students have finished our Subtraction unit and begun exploring Division. They have focused on building efficient mental strategies, including halving to divide by 2, halving twice to divide by 4 and halving three times to divide by 8.
Students have also explored the power of 10, learning to divide by 10 and using this knowledge to divide by 5 by dividing by 10 and then doubling. Throughout this learning, students have connected multiplication and division as inverse operations and used arrays to represent and solve division equations.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students have continued exploring the connection between people and their environment. They have investigated how climate and environmental features can influence housing and where communities settle.
Students have also begun investigating their local environment, collecting and recording geographical information to help describe its features and make conclusions about the area around them.

Year 4 Camp is nearly here! Wednesday 26th August to Friday 28th August.

A few important reminders for the first day:

Students need to BYO lunch and snacks for Day 1, including food for the bus trip.
Please pack belongings in a soft bag rather than a hard-shell suitcase.
Please ensure all belongings are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Check the supplied camp packing list carefully when preparing your child's belongings.
