In Numeracy, students have been learning about collecting and organising data. We began by exploring how to gather data using tally marks. Students collected data from simple class surveys, then used this information to create picture graphs. This helped them practise counting, organising information and understanding how data can be shown visually.
We then started learning how to represent data using bar graphs. Students have again been collecting data through class surveys (such as favourite colours, animals and sports) and displaying the results in bar graphs. We have been focusing on how to label graphs clearly, read the information and compare which categories have the most, least or the same. This work helps students develop their understanding of how data can be organised and interpreted.
Next, we will begin our new unit on place value, where students will explore how numbers are made using hundreds, tens and ones.
