We have been very busy writing this term! Our focus has been on learning about the components of personal narratives. Students are developing their understanding of the key parts of a narrative, including characters, setting, and events structured into a clear beginning, middle, and end.
At this stage, students are not yet writing full stories. Instead, they are building strong foundations by identifying these elements in mentor texts and in a variety of picture prompts. They have been practising verbally retelling stories, labelling pictures, and clearly explaining who the characters are, where the story is set, and what is happening at different points in the beginning, middle, and end.
Through discussions and collaborative activities, students are strengthening their oral language skills and deepening their understanding of story structure. This important preparation work is their own personal narratives in the coming weeks. helping to build
confidence and ensure they are ready to begin writing.
