Celebrations
Hoop Time
On Wednesday 9 September, selected Level 5/6 students participated in Senior Hooptime, travelling to the State Basketball Centre to showcase their sporting abilities and enjoy an excellent day out.
5JM Kinder Visit
This term, Heathmont East Preschool has been walking across to visit our Level 5 students in their classrooms. Students have enjoyed engaging in wonderful bonding activities, including listening to The Gruffalo and creating masks together.
3-Way Learning Conferences
We are so proud of our Level 5 students and their 3-Way Learning Conference slides. They were wonderfully presented and thoughtfully reflected upon, providing a real showcase of the amazing young people they are growing into.
R U OK? Day
Students came dressed in a splash of yellow to celebrate R U OK? Day, highlighting the importance of checking in with those around us and making everyone feel supported and valued.
Aim High Assembly
Congratulations to our Level 5 Aim High Award recipients, Liam Malcolm, Ella Sindrey and Jamue Stroud! All three of you are wonderful representatives of Level 5. We are very proud of all that you have achieved so far this year.
Taste Testers Excursion
On Tuesday 15 September, Level 5 students embarked on a journey forward in time and experienced life as a Year 7 student at Bayswater College. Students participated in Physical Education, Art, STEM and Food Technology, giving them a wonderful opportunity to experience some of the learning and routines they can look forward to in secondary school.
Literacy
This week, Level 5 students have been immersed in Blueback by Australian author Tim Winton. Through this engaging novel, students have explored character, setting, plot, themes and the author’s use of language.
A key focus has been our connection to the natural environment and our responsibility to protect it. Students have developed their comprehension and inference skills, supported their ideas with evidence from the text, and made connections between the novel and the world around them.
Through Blueback, students have explored important themes including family, belonging, courage, responsibility and caring for our environment.
Numeracy
This week in Numeracy, students have been learning about the probability of two events happening and applying their understanding to create their own probability-based board games. They have designed games featuring 5–10 different probability outcomes, using chance and probability to make their games engaging, fair and challenging.
Inquiry
This week students have been using Google Sites to finish creating their own websites comparing Australia with a country in the Asia-Pacific region. They have researched and presented information about their chosen country, making comparisons and exploring similarities and differences between Australia and its neighbours.
As they completed their websites, students have evaluated their learning and reflected on how their thinking has changed throughout the Inquiry unit. They have used evidence from their research to support their conclusions and consider what they have learned about Australia and its place in the Asia-Pacific region.
Looking ahead
Next term we look forward to our final term in Level 5 with our classes. It has been amazing to see the growth and learning that they have done so far. Things to look forward to next term are:
