Learning in Year 2

Maths
In Mathematics, we have been exploring fractions by identifying and representing halves, quarters, and, for some students, eighths of both shapes and collections. We have also been revisiting addition and subtraction, learning how to solve problems vertically using MAB blocks to strengthen our understanding of place value and regrouping. Alongside this, we have been building our fluency by practising our 2, 5 and 10 times tables, with some students extending their learning by working on their 4 times tables.
Writing
In Writing, we have been focusing on descriptive writing, learning how to add detail and excitement to our work by using our five senses. Students have been practising the skill of showing, not telling to create vivid pictures in the minds of their readers. We are looking forward to beginning our Information Report unit, where students will learn how to research, organise facts, and present information clearly for their audience.
Integrated
In Integrated Studies, we have begun our exciting Farm to Table unit. So far, we have explored how milk is produced and transported from farms to our local supermarkets. Students have also been learning about whether different foods come from plants or animals and discovering how farming varies across Australia depending on the climate and the types of crops or livestock best suited to each region. We are looking forward to visiting Myuna Farm in the coming weeks, where students will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding through hands-on experiences with farm animals and food production.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, we have been exploring Respectful Relationships and learning how we can work together to solve problems in a kind and respectful way. Students have been developing their communication skills, understanding different perspectives, and finding positive ways to support one another. We also had lots of fun celebrating Friendship Day with our crazy socks and engaging activities. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate friendships, kindness, and connection within our classroom community.
