Learning in Year 6

Reflections on Term 2, 2026
Term 2 was packed with memorable experiences and exciting opportunities for our Year 6 students! Highlights included our incredible three-day, two-night camp at Campaspe Downs, House Athletics Day (congratulations to Perkins for taking out the win!), a thought-provoking Cyberbullying Workshop, an engaging Immigration Incursion, our Do It For Dolly free dress day (pictured above), the Interschool Sport Gala Day, and, of course, school photos. It has certainly been a busy term filled with learning, teamwork, resilience, and plenty of unforgettable memories—what a fantastic few months it has been!
Term 3 : English
This term, students will explore a variety of engaging texts, including information texts, poetry and our class novel. They will examine how authors organise ideas, communicate information and use language to engage their audience while continuing to develop their comprehension, critical thinking and analytical skills.
In writing, students will plan, draft, edit and publish informative texts and experiment with poetry to express ideas creatively. Our grammar focus will include coordinating and subordinating conjunctions, sequencing and transitional language, third-person writing, comparative adjectives, and figurative language such as similes, metaphors and hyperbole to strengthen and enrich students' writing.
Term 3 : Maths
In Mathematics this term, students will strengthen their understanding through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. They will solve problems involving fractions, multiply
and divide decimals by multiples of powers of 10, and convert between common metric units of length, mass and capacity.
Students will also explore geometric concepts, including angle relationships, and develop their spatial reasoning by representing integers on the Cartesian plane and applying this knowledge to solve mathematical problems.
Term 3 : Integrated Studies
This term, our Integrated Studies unit explores Global Geography and our place in an interconnected world. Students will investigate the Asia–Pacific region, Australia's global connections, and how trade, culture, technology and human rights shape our world.
Students will also work collaboratively to research a country and create products to sell at our annual Bizarre Bazaar. This authentic learning experience will develop their creativity, teamwork, financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills, culminating in Market Day and opportunities to reflect on their learning.
