Literacy

We have jumped straight into our daily writing sessions as we explore the features of effective narratives. We have explicitly explored the different parts of a narrative and how to use descriptive language to make our stories even more exciting. The students have loved experimenting with what they have learned as they create and write their own stories.

In Reading, we have been exploring the different features of a variety of texts, including fiction and non-fiction. We have been making connections, exploring language in detail and developing our understanding of how texts are structured. Students continue to read independently each day, and their hard work both at school and at home is showing as they continue to grow as confident and capable readers.

Maths

In Maths, we began the term by revising measurement. Students enjoyed measuring a variety of objects accurately and ordering groups of objects according to their length.

We have now shifted our attention to patterns. We are not only identifying and describing patterns, but also creating our own and completing patterns created by our friends. Students have been using their skip-counting knowledge to efficiently create, copy and continue patterns.

Integrated Studies

This term, our Integrated Studies topic is "Creepy Crawly Critters". Students have been exploring a variety of insects and bugs and learning about their unique features. These sessions have been integrated with our Reading lessons, making use of the plethora of amazing fiction and non-fiction books available on our topic.

Students have greatly enjoyed labelling insects and creating a variety of crafts to reflect and demonstrate their learning. Don't be surprised if you have some handmade creepy-crawly critters coming home soon!

Wellbeing

Students have enjoyed participating in our weekly Wellbeing sessions. So far this term, we have focused on friendships. We have explored what makes a healthy friendship, while placing a particular focus on what we can do when we experience problems within our friendships.

We know that no friendship is perfect, and it is important for students to learn and practise specific skills to help them navigate challenges when they arise. We have enjoyed discussing different scenarios and thinking about positive ways we can communicate, solve problems and maintain healthy friendships.

Thank you for all your continued support. We are looking forward to a wonderful Term 3 filled with lots of learning, laughter and fun!
