R U OK? Day | Footy Colours Day
Hi, my name is Ethan and I’m the 2024 Wellbeing Leader at Cheltenham. Thursday the 12th of September is R U Ok? Day, but since mental health is one of the most important topics of conversation there is, we decided to extend the day into a whole week. Every day during the week, I spoke over the PA for the last couple minutes of the day explaining the 4 steps in how to ask “How are you?” the right way. We learnt how to prepare ourselves to ask, and then what to do to make sure your person feels safe and secure when you ask them if they’re ok. We then spoke about how to actively listen, encourage a person struggling to take action and finally how to go about checking in. In the mornings students had the opportunity to say “Are you ok?” in their own language. It was a very moving and heartfelt week at Cheltenham.
The SRC and Senior VCE VM students organised Footy Colours Day on Tuesday 17th September. Students dressed in their footy colours and participated in footy activities such as 'the longest kick' and 'kick the football into the bin'. Free dress gold coin donations raised just over $350 for the Fight Cancer Foundation. Thank you to Sport First for donating the prizes for the games.
