Food Technology News!
We have had a fantastic start to the year in Food Technology, with students enthusiastically getting involved in practical learning from the very first lessons.
Our Year 7 students began by developing their kitchen confidence, making Chocolate Balls while learning about the importance of personal hygiene and safety in food preparation. They then built on these skills by preparing their own Mini Pizzas.
Year 8 students have already started designing their own food products and are preparing to create a range of creative and delicious scrolls in the coming weeks.
This year, we are excited to introduce a new subject, Global Foods, where students will explore cuisines from six different continents.
We have begun with Australia, preparing Kangaroo Sausage Rolls, Lemon Myrtle Biscuits, and Wattle seed Damper.
In upcoming lessons, students will investigate a variety of Australian ingredients and enjoy tasting some uniquely local foods.
Our MasterChef class has been busy refining their knife skills while creating colourful Buddha Bowls. Students have also sampled a range of sausage rolls and have now begun designing their own versions — we look forward to seeing their creative ideas come to life!

Dance (Year 9 and 10 elective)
Scoresby Secondary College is delighted to offer ‘Dance’ as a new elective for Year 9 and 10 this year. Professional dance instructors from ‘Footsteps’ coach students in a variety of dance styles and steps. Students will perform their own choreography routines in a showcase at the end of the unit.
Here is what the students have to say about the one hour workshops so far:
“It brings the class closer together and the class has good vibes” – Abraham and Jimmy
“The moves are easy enough that we can all do them and it’s fun”. – Laura, Jacinta and Renee
Students have learnt routines to music from Michael Jackson and Dom Dolla.
