Careers

Welcome to the 2026 school year!

We are excited for what promises to be an inspiring and opportunity-filled year in the Career and Pathways Department. From Work Experience and Career Expos to Morrisby Profiling, university visits, and engaging special guest speakers, there will be many valuable experiences to support students as they explore their future pathways.

I look forward to sharing updates, opportunities, and key information with families throughout the year and working together to help our students thrive.

Year 10 Work Experience – Monday 22 to Friday 26 June

Work Experience is an important part of your career development because it helps you connect school learning to the real world. It provides a valuable opportunity to:

  • Explore career interests – Experience different industries and roles before making decisions about future subjects or pathways.
  • Build practical skills – Develop communication, teamwork, time management, and problem-solving skills in a real workplace setting.
  • Develop confidence and independence – Being in a professional environment supports both personal and professional growth.
  • Understand workplace expectations – Learn about punctuality, professional behaviour, responsibility, and workplace culture.
  • Strengthen your résumé – Employers and training providers highly value genuine workplace experience.
  • Create pathways to School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships – VCE students can begin an apprenticeship or traineeship part-time while still at school. Completing work experience in your chosen field is a prerequisite for entry into these program

We encourage families to support their student in securing a Work Experience placement.

Reaching out to family and friends is a great place to start, particularly if you know someone working in an industry your child is interested in exploring.  Community connections can also open valuable doors, and sometimes good old-fashioned hard work — such as cold calling businesses or visiting workplaces in person — can lead to fantastic opportunities.

Students will begin completing their OH&S modules at school to ensure they are workplace ready, and representatives from Head Start will be visiting to guide students through the application process and provide advice on how to approach employers professionally and confidently.

Police Force Work Experience – Congratulations Sammi!

Scoresby Secondary College was fortunate to receive a wonderful opportunity for one student to complete Work Experience with the Victoria Police Force. After a strong application process and submissions from interested students, we are delighted to congratulate Sammi  Willems on being selected for this experience.

This is an exciting achievement, and we wish Sammi the very best as she takes part in this unique opportunity. We look forward to hearing all about her experience and the insights she gains from working alongside the Victorian Police Force. Well done and good luck!

Visit to Swinburne University of Technology – Hawthorn Campus

As part of continuing to stay current with tertiary pathways, I recently visited the Hawthorn campus of Swinburne University.

Exploring campuses in person allows me to see not only the courses on offer, but also the surrounds, public transport access, and overall student experience. With the train station right next to the campus and great shops and cafes nearby, it is a vibrant and easily accessible location for students.

During this visit, I attended workshops in the Health faculty and explored their new and emerging AI degrees. I also sat in on a presentation outlining their Early Childhood and Primary Teaching degrees and pathways.

While teaching programs are relatively new at Swinburne, it was impressive to see how they are embedding AI into interactive workshops to enhance learning.

The sessions were engaging, hands-on, and a lot of fun — showcasing how future educators are being prepared with both practical teaching skills and innovative technology integration.

Visits like this ensure we are actively keeping up to date with new courses, teaching approaches, and pathway opportunities so we can provide families with informed and current advice.
