Health & Physical Education

Health and Physical Education!
What a wonderful start that we have had to the year in Physical Education and Health.
Students have continued with their fantastic culture and learning habits by having their PE uniform and fully engaging in all activities.
A special shoutout to Year8 students who all had their PE uniform on the very first day of school, despite not even having access to their timetables. The common reply was that they “bought their PE gear because they were hoping they had PE”. That preparedness and enthusiasm is indicative of the positive approach students have to our learning area.
Our ‘Sport of the Month” has definitely been Volleyball. Students in Years 7 to 9 have been working diligently in PE classes on individual digging, setting, hitting and serving skills.
Intense individual practise leads to successful competitive games and many students then display their skills in interschool teams.
Later in the year we will look at holding an inter-fom internal volleyball competition.
We have also added the elective of Outdoor Ed to our curriculum. Mr Smith has worked tirelessly to organise this subject, and as I write, I am hearing rave reviews of the success of the classes' first excursion to Phillip Island to participate in the fine art of surfing.
Students in our Health classes are also making positive progress. Mr Sohtra reports that Year 9 students have shown advanced critical thinking skills while engaging in a unit about online safety. Mrs Smith informs me that our VCE Health and Human Development class has also made an excellent start to the year.
Our aim of being an exemplary active school continues to come to fruition, and another highlight has been the overwhelming support that we have had for our lunchtime activities.
The Gym is abuzz with action every lunchtime with students participating in volleyball, soccer, pickleball , badminton, table tennis and resistance training. The resistance training takes place in our newly reconfigured upstairs fitness center. We will feature this further in the next newsletter.
Wow, exciting times ahead.
Stay active.
