ART
Production
The art room has been busy this term as we made props, costumes and accessories for the school production. The grade 6 students did an amazing job helping with the props. Thanks to some very helpful dads too for giving us a hand!
Foundation
This term foundation students have had a lot of fun exploring warm and cool colours as they made their fish paintings. They have also learnt about the colourful art of Australian artist Anna Blatman, creating their own field of flowers paintings.
Level 1
Students had fun combining colour theory with sponge printing to create a figure in primary colours. They needed to select appropriate shapes and try to keep the colours clean. They were encouraged to make their figures animated.
Level 2
Students observed the colours, patterns and subject matter of traditional Aboriginal artworks. They began by using a stencil then divided their ‘canvas’ by colouring 3-4 areas to break up the design. They then added dots and/or scratched back into their pastel work.
Level 3
Level 3 students have made a clay thong base using the slab method. They needed to roll the clay evenly then trace and cut around a stencil. These will be painted with scenes and colours that represent the warmer months and a pipe cleaner will form the upper part.
Level 4
Level 4 students observed the work of contemporary Aboriginal artist, Jimmy Pike, noting his use of vivid colours and line work in his paintings. Students revised their knowledge of tonal variants to create a Pike inspired image. They used the first letter of their name or an organic shape as a base and worked in to their art by adding texture and/or etching into areas. Focus was on exploration of the different qualities of art materials.
Grade 5
Grade 5 have been learning about Pop Art and the work of Andy Warhol. They have explored a variety of techniques to create a flower artwork including print making and paint scraping. We also looked at indigenous artists Miimi and Jiinda and created an artwork inspired by one of their paintings.
Grade 6
Grade 6 students have done an amazing job exploring the colourful collages of Pete Cromer. They each chose an Australian animal and created their own water colour collage pieces. They carefully cut out the pieces they needed for their animal. They should be very proud of their finished artworks!
Production
All students contributed to their costume creations. Level 1 painted blue stripes for their sailor hats. Level 2 threaded patty-pans to create a lei. Level 3 constructed a sword and level 4 have crafted a medallion from clay. Please note, all art works are at varying degrees of completion.
