Literacy
During the past few weeks, we have been assessing the students’ reading and writing skills, and we are very impressed with their progress. Most students can read a green Stage 3 Little Learners book, which is most impressive for this time of year. Students are also able to record a decodable sentence such as, “Tim is on the red mat.” They have been using finger spacing, a capital at the beginning of the sentence, and punctuation at the end.
Our new mentor text is Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! which the students have found very amusing. Here is a link to the story:

Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have been exploring the concepts of counting and place value. These skills are important because they help students develop number sense, build confidence with numbers, and form the foundation for future mathematical learning.
During our learning, students have been working on:
- making target numbers from smaller numbers
- combining numbers to make 10
- counting forwards and backwards from 0–20 and 20–0
- counting collections up to 20 with one-to-one correspondence
- reading and writing numerals to 20
During our Applied Mathematics sessions, students are learning to identify and describe the attribute of length. They are developing the ability to recognise long, short, and tall objects, and to compare objects using these length-related terms.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, students have been exploring the Zones of Regulation and revising the four zones: Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red. We watched Finding Nemo and discussed the characters’ emotions throughout the movie, identifying which zones they may have been experiencing.
In the coming weeks, the focus will shift to Topic 4: Problem Solving Activities 1 and 2.

Reminders
Satchels and Home Reading
Please ensure your child brings their satchel to school each day. To borrow a new coloured decodable book, your child must first return their current book. Once all boxes on the home reading sheet have been completed, please see your classroom teacher to collect a new sheet.
There is a QR code inside your child’s Boomerang Book which allows you to access Little Learners Love Literacy books online for additional reading practice at home. Here is a link to assist with reading: Reading at Home
Here is a link to the Cued articulation we use, however, please note that we are not currently teaching all of the sounds featured in this video.
Library
Please send a named bag with your child on their library day so they can bring a book home to enjoy. Students have received a red material bag from their teacher which would make a great library bag!
Library Times:
Prep A, B, C, D, E on Thursdays
Shoelaces
We have noticed there are many children who come to school with laces. If they can't tie their laces, it is recommended they have velcro shoes. Here is a video to assist with learning to tie laces.

Toileting Before School
Please remind your child to use the toilet before school so that their learning is not interrupted in the morning session.
Spare Clothes
Please ensure your child has a change of clothes, including socks, in their bag.
Buddies
We enjoyed our sunny afternoon at our last Buddies session. This week, we are featuring Prep C, who enjoyed some outdoor written activities with their buddies. They enjoyed hopscotch, skipping, basketball, bean bag toss, and dice roll games.
Dojo Rewards
Congratulations to all students who have achieved their Silver Award (150 points). Certificates will be presented during assembly while students stand with their class. Students will choose their reward in consultation with their teacher.

Maths Zoo Afternoon
On Tuesday, the school was abuzz with excitement during our Maths Zoo afternoon. Students and their families enjoyed exploring the school with their passports and completing all of the engaging activities. It was wonderful to see so many Foundation families attending and joining in the fun. Congratulations to Grayson Prep A for winning a prize at the Maths afternoon!
