Important Dates - Year 4
Year 4 Camp @ Mill Valley Ranch: 10th - 12th June
What's happening in our classroom?
Literacy
This term students are reading the text 'The Wild Robot' by Peter Brown. This text will guide much of our literacy learning in Term 2 including, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and persuasive writing. The book is about an intelligent robot is that is stranded on an uninhabited island after a shipwreck. To survive the harsh surroundings, she bonds with the native animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose.
We will be learning about persuasive writing inspired by 'The Wild Robot'. Students will craft letters that include clear arguments, supporting details and persuasive language to express a point of view.
Numeracy
Over the next two weeks students will be beginning a unit that focuses on decimals.
As part of this unit we will be exploring:
how to write and represent decimal numbers
placing decimals on a number line
reading and ordering decimals to hundredths
In the upcoming weeks we will also be exploring data in mathematics.
This will include:
identifying and comparing different graphs
how to assess and analyse the factors of a data set
how to select an appropriate data display
Inquiry
This term in Inquiry, students will explore the exciting world of Distant Forces.
They will investigate the difference between contact and non-contact forces, including gravity, magnetism and electrostatic forces. Students will also learn about different types of forces such as pushes, pulls and twists, and how these forces affect everyday objects. They will conduct hands-on experiments with magnets, explore how some objects float in liquids, and discover how forces can act on objects without touching them.

A big thank you to all the parents who generously volunteered their time to help coach and support the teams. Congratulations also to our Boys Future Stars team, who performed exceptionally well and will now advance to the regional finals later in the year.
Wellbeing - Human Knots
In a recent Wellbeing lesson, students worked together to create and then solve “human knots,” demonstrating persistence, patience and positive collaboration skills. It was wonderful to see everyone supporting one another while having fun and building stronger connections with their classmates.
