STEAM UPDATE
It has been a very busy term in the STEAM room so far this term.
Grade 3 students are working on a nature weaving project where they are learning about the cultural significance, traditional materials, and weaving techniques used in Aboriginal weaving.
They will develop fine motor skills, creativity, problem-solving, and patience as they design and weave their own branch weaving using raffia, wool, or recycled materials.
Grade four students have been busy learning all about sphero bolts and how to use block code to use their many features. They have demonstrated problem solving and persistence when working with their partner to code sphero through a maze with varied angles and distances.

Grade five students have been designing a Picasso Cow for the Dairy Australia competition. They have researched the farm to table process in quite a lot of detail and ran a competition to name our cow. Each grade submitted a name suggestion and the student voted on the best shortlisted name. Her name is now 'Dairy McLairy" which 2A contibuted and for their effort recieved a delicious icecream treat. The students planning will now be added to Dairy McLairy to be pained in the Art Room.

Grade six students are learning to sew on a machine. They are making Possum Pouches for rescued injured possums. They are refining their skills on the sewing machine and learning to press the foot pedal slowly to keep control of their sewing. One student said that learning to press the pedal slowly will probably help them when they learn to drive! Let's hope so. The finished pouches are being donated to Dandenong Ranges Wildlife Shelter.

Students in the Junior School spent the past fortnight finalising and performing their various soundscapes.
It was great to see lots of teamwork, listening, creativity and experimenting to find the right instrument/body percussion for the desired sound.
We will spend the next fortnight reviewing beats and playing in time with music with our turtle and skeleton conductors - always a hit!

Auditions for lead roles in the concert are happening TUESDAY 2nd JUNE in the Music room at lunchtime. There have been quite a few 5/6 students who have shown an interest in some of the cast. I have organised a panel of teacher across the school to attend the auditions with me and I forward to seeing how the students interpret the different monologues they have been practising!
