Homework Week 9 and 10 - books have Mathletics passwords

Laptops are to be brought to school fully charged please.

Literacy:

In Literacy we have been continued to read interesting passages matched to a picture prompt that potential could start a narrative. Students have been asked to identify words that are unknown to them and to look up the meaning in a dictionary or on their laptop. In our Writer's Notebooks we have brainstormed possible narratives including vocabulary and interesting first sentences. In the final week students will be completing a choose your own adventure story ending.

In Spelling we have been looking at the base word 'dic - dict' meaning say, tell, proclaim.

This word builder picture below is part of the homework this fortnight. How many words do you know and do you know the meaning too?

Numeracy:

To reflect and summarise on our Term 1 numeracy sessions, the students have been given a "Create your own maths game" project. The students were given the task to plan, draft, and create their own game with a specific maths focus. Students have been busily writing and drawing their game designs, outlining the purpose of the game, game instructions, and creating all the resources required to play.

Through their design process, students have applied their own skills of their selected area of numeracy that we have focused on this term: Place value, whole number operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), fractions, decimals, or data representation. We enjoyed sharing our games with our peers and enjoying a collaborative, creative task to show all our wonderful numeracy work this term!

Inquiry:

For our Term 1 Inquiry focus on 'Health', we have been thinking deeper about our healthy habits, and what health means to us as unique individuals. We have been looking at what makes a community safe, healthy, and active, and how we are surrounded with health initiatives in the wider community. We looked at health messages around us and how we can utilise local areas and community groups to support our health. One way we can promote health and wellbeing is by creating our own Health Promotion Posters!
