Level 2: Connect

Kym Seccull, Zoe Whitaker, Jess Steel & Sean Daley

As we come to the end of Term 1, it’s hard to believe how quickly the time has flown! We are incredibly proud of all our students and the effort, growth, and enthusiasm they have shown throughout the term. It has been wonderful to see their confidence build and their willingness to take on new challenges. We look forward to another fantastic term ahead.

We wish everyone a safe and restful break!

Next term we will be reading 'The Magic Faraway Tree'. If your child would like to bring in a copy from home to read along with the teacher that would be wonderful (but this is completely optional). It is available from Big W at the moment for $10 if you do wish to purchase a copy. Click on the link  here if you wish to get a copy (again completely optional).  Please ensure your child writes there name on it.

Core Literacy

Next term we will continue to develop the students phonological awareness and build upon their existing knowledge.

Reading & Writing

Reading – Visual Literacy and Author Study

We continued our author study on Bob Graham and explored his books The Concrete Garden and Jigsaw. Students explored how images and text work together to create meaning. We discussed how illustrations can show mood, setting, and important events, and how pictures can add extra information to a story beyond the words. As a fun end to our term, the Year 2s also created their own concrete gardens to celebrate our learning.

English – Grammar

In Grammar, students have been learning to write and edit compound sentences using conjunctions such as and, but, so, and or. They practised creating sentences from images and choosing appropriate conjunctions to connect ideas clearly. Students also focused on editing their work, checking for correct punctuation, including capital letters, full stops, and commas.

Maths

In maths this week we revisited all the concepts we have learned this term about Place Value. Each student was given a different 3-digit number, which they created a ‘Place Value Think Board’ about. They needed to include on their board; 1 more and 1 less than their number, 10 more and 10 less, their number in expanded form and on a number line, and finally show their number using MAB in both standard and non-standard representations.

This was a fantastic showcase of what they have learned about Place Value this term. Well done to all Year 2 students on a fabulous term of mathematical learning!

Inquiry

Students have just completed an information report all about themselves. They had so much fun writing the different stages of life and what they could do at each stage. To celebrate their learning, students also created an “All About Me” poster to share with their families. This has been a wonderful way to conclude our Growth and Change health unit for the term.

Next term, we are excited to begin our new Inquiry unit, where students will be learning about the geography of Australia.
