House Swimming
Congratulations to all those students who participated in the House swimming trials in November last year in preparation for the District swimming event early this term. The rainy morning made it tricky for the competitors but the swimming races were great. Children with the fastest top three times for each event and age group received ribbons. Fantastic effort by everyone and all students achieved house points. The winning house was announced at assembly. Congratulations to Nolan!
1st – Nolan
2nd – Lindsay

Huge thanks to the following parents who helped time the races: Joel, Mehdi, Samantha and Sharon.
The results from the day were used to select the school team who competed at the Monash Heights District on Thursday 12 February.
Well done everyone!
District Swimming
On Thursday 12 February, 28 children in the swimming team represented Essex Heights at the Monash Heights District Swimming event at MARC (Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre) in Glen Waverley. The students were very excited to represent their school and certainly should be extremely proud of their efforts, especially in such cold and wet weather conditions.
All competitors performed their very best and showed great sportsmanship!
Numerous students received a ribbon for placing in the top four positions. The top four competitors in individual events and the top two places in the relays qualified for the Division event.

Huge thanks to the families for supporting the children. Thanks to John Colley for being a timing judge, also Elima Pozenel for assisting me with marshalling our students for their swimming races whilst Miss Kemp was busy scoring the points at the finish line.
Our students were extremely well behaved and displayed our terrific Essex Heights sportsmanship, cheering on their teammates.
It was a great day!
Fantastic effort by all competitors!
Monique Hocking
I competed at the District swimming carnival on Thursday the 12th of February at the Monash Aquatic Centre. I competed in two events: freestyle and freestyle relay. Sadly, I didn’t place in the individual freestyle but my relay team placed third. My team included Amali, Isabella, Illary and me. The day was cold and rainy, but I still had so much fun cheering on everyone. A big thank you to Ms Hocking and Miss Kemp for helping us and cheering us on throughout the day.
Samantha – Year 6
Recently we had an opportunity to represent our school at District swimming. We were very nervous but also excited. There were five schools we competed against. It was very tough because all twenty-eight students had to swim in the rain and it was very cold too. We came second out of six schools which was awesome! We were proud to represent our school and we hope more students will participate in sports and take up opportunities like this in the future. We would like to thank Ms Hocking and Miss Kemp for supporting us through our journey.
Illary – Year 6
Hockey Clinic
It was wonderful to welcome back past student, Gemma, and her colleague Chad from Waverley Hockey this week. They conducted hockey clinics with our Years 3 and 4 students in P.E.
Years 3 to 6 House Cross Country
All Years 3 to 6 students will compete in their House in a cross country event on Thursday 5 March from 9am to 11am within the school grounds and the Essex Heights Reserve oval.
The House Cross Country event is a healthy, fun and active event that helps to ensure we send the right message about the benefits of physical activity and being active to our students while having fun and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The main focus for this event is to encourage participation and teamwork.
Students in Year 3 and the 9/10 year old age group will run two laps (2km), and 11 years and 12/13 years age groups will run three laps (3km). Age groups are determined by the student’s age on 31 December 2026.
The program of events is as follows:
- 12/13 boys
- 12/13 girls
- 11 boys
- 11 girls
- 9/10 boys
- 9/10 girls
- Year 3 boys
- Year 3 girls
Qualifying students will represent EHPS at the Monash Heights District cross country event on Wednesday 6 May (date to be confirmed).
Family support is appreciated as we encourage all students to participate and get involved. 16 parents helpers are needed from 9am to 11am on the day to be marshals on the course; parent helpers will be allocated to a station and are required to supervise the children as they progress around the designated course. If you’re available and have completed the school’s Child Safety requirements (hold and presented a current Working with Children Check, signed the Child Safety Code of Conduct and completed the OH&S induction for volunteers), please contact Monique Hocking by Monday (23 February) using the link in your Compass News Feed.
Prep to Year 2 students will participate in their House Cross Country on Friday 13 March. More details provided soon.
