Prep’s First Day
On Thursday 5 February, our Prep students began their EHPS learning journey!
We had such an exciting morning with lots of smiles, photos, games, songs, and fun! Our Preps have settled so well into school, learning their new routines, getting to know their teachers and making new friends. They are now doing full days at school and have started learning in specialist classes. Over the last week, our Preps have been introduced to lots of new letter sounds, have been practising reading poems, exploring the days of the week and recognising numbers. What a fun start!
To celebrate such a special milestone, each of our students were presented with a special bag from the Victorian Government filled with picture books, puzzles and interesting activities to explore at home with their families (information about the contents of this year’s Prep bag was included in Issue 1 of Contact).
Please join us in welcoming all of our new families to Essex Heights!
Warm regards,
Sarah Medland, Amber Hardy, Kim Sambrooks, Hannah Zagarn, Yogini Patel and Verity Bright

Free health assessment
The Primary School Nursing Program is a free service offered by the Department of Education to all Foundation (Prep) students and their families during their child’s first year of school.
The program aims to assist in the early identification of children with potential health, wellbeing or development concerns which may impact on their education and offers screening (such as hearing,
vision, speech, dental and motor skills) as well as advice, information and referrals to other health and support services.
Parents/carers can support their child’s participation in the program by completing the online School Entrant Health Questionnaire on the VicStudents portal (most families have already registered on the portal when enrolling your child). You can access and complete the online questionnaire on a mobile phone, computer or tablet using the QR code on the SEHQ postcard that was sent home recently with Prep students (also on flyer below) or click the SEHQ button below. A paper version of the questionnaire is available on request; speak to your child’s teacher if you prefer this option.
The Primary School Nurse will visit EHPS soon to conduct further health screenings for students with parent/carer consent that require it. The nurse may contact parents/carers to further discuss any concerns raised in the questionnaire, using the details you provided.
Participation in the program is not mandatory and parent/carer consent is required for the Primary School Nurse to see your child.
If you do not wish to participate, you are encouraged to login to the portal and select ‘No I do not consent’ in the online questionnaire so that your response is recorded.
