RECONCILIATION @ St Thomas the Apostle

Wednesday 25th March and Thursday 26th March

Some of our Grade 3 students participated in the Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation, where they were given the opportunity to reflect on their actions, take responsibility for their choices, and seek forgiveness. Throughout this experience, students developed a deeper understanding of God’s love and mercy, as well as the importance of honesty, empathy, and making positive changes in their relationships with others. This meaningful celebration supported students in recognising the value of forgiveness and encouraged them to act with kindness and compassion in their daily lives.

Week 9's Learning Foci:

Religions Education:

Our Grade 3 students attended Mass in celebration of the Feast of the Annunciation. During this special occasion, students reflected on the story of when the angel appeared to Mary to tell her that she would bear a child, who would be called Jesus, the Son of God. They demonstrated excellent listening and active participation throughout the service, and represented our school beautifully through their calm behaviour and thoughtful attitude.

During Religious Education lessons we discussed Project Compassion. Grade 3's discovered the reasons behind why Project Compassion is important and how we can help. We will complete the Big Water Walk on Friday to feel what it might be like for the 292 million people who have to walk more than 30 minutes to get water.

English:

This week we have continued to read 'Off we go around Australia. Four holidays Adventures in One! by Roland Harvey.

Mathematics: Time

In Mathematics, our Grade 3 students have been learning about time. They explored key concepts such as there being 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, and 24 hours in a day. Students have also been developing their skills in reading a stopwatch and interpreting a digital clock. Through hands-on activities and real-life examples, they have been building confidence in understanding and measuring time.

Auslan:

In Auslan, students have been learning Unit 2, where they have continued to build their understanding of basic signs and communication skills. They have been practising how to express themselves using signs, facial expressions, and body language, while also developing their ability to understand others. Students have worked collaboratively and engaged enthusiastically in activities to strengthen their confidence in using Auslan in meaningful ways.

How you can support at home:  Families are key partners in supporting school learning, and there are many easy and practical ways to help at home.

Some suggestions:

  • Ask your child about Project Compassion and the Big Water Walk
  • Chat with your child about what they would like to do on the school holidays, inspired by the book we read in English.
  • Encourage your child to use Auslan in everyday life.
  • Make reading together every night a special time. Ask questions about what they have read to strengthen comprehension skills—this is especially important wherever possible!

There is no need to complete every suggestion listed — regular, simple conversations are often the most powerful way to build confidence and reinforce learning.
