Visual Arts Foundation - Grade 4
Foundation
This term Foundation students explored drawing, paint, mixed media and plasticine. They added to their sticker name artworks by creating favourite drawings in crayon, then layering with watercolour to create a resist effect. Students learned how wax and paint interact to reveal their designs. Students have also begun a 3D artwork, plasticine portraits, using techniques such as rolling, pressing and smearing to shape facial features and explore texture on their canvas. It has been great to see students build fine motor skill confidence and take pride in their work each week.
Grades 1 and 2
This term Grade One and Two students made air dry clay bowls using pinching and coiling techniques. Over the last few weeks they have shaped, added to, painted and decorated their work with their own designs. Students practised problem solving and showed persistence as they improved their pieces each week. Clay work has helped build creativity, fine motor skills and confidence.
Grades 3 and 4
This term grade Three and Four students have been refining their lettering skills through the completion of their shadow writing name plaques. They explored how the use of light and shadow can create depth and a three dimensional effect, helping their letters stand out with greater impact. Students demonstrated strong focus and persistence as they applied consistent shadow direction and spacing to enhance their designs. Building on this work, students have begun exploring interest based and graffiti style lettering for their art folders, experimenting with shapes, outlines, and personal styles to express their individuality. It has been exciting to see students take creative risks and develop confidence as they move towards more expressive and stylised forms of visual art.
