Class 5 Steiner

Celebrating Learning

Kii Class 5S Families,

Main Lesson

Our class play preparations are gathering wonderful momentum, and it has a been a real pleasure to see how engaged the children have been in this process. They are taking responsibility for learning their lines, listening attentively in rehearsals, retaining directions beautifully, and showing great care for the flow of the performance. Thank you for any support you have given your child at home to learn their lines. It makes such a difference to the rehearsal process when lines have been learned, increasing confidence and allowing full attention to be given to performing. Your continued support in this process is greatly appreciated. It would be wonderful to have all lines learned by early next week.

This week we have also started organising costumes which was excitedly received by the class. We will have another week of rehearsals building up to our final dress rehearsal the day prior to the performance.

We have also made a good start on sets and props. We combined our Book Week door decorations with the play backdrop, and it was wonderful to see how creatively and collaboratively the children worked to create the springtime scene together.  There was a wonderful atmosphere of team spirit as they industriously supported each other in completing it in time for Book Week celebrations.

Thank you to all families that have contributed to costumes and props for the play. We are still in need of white fabric, so if you have any old white or pastel-coloured sheets tucked away in the cupboard, we would be most grateful if we could borrow them. Or if you come across any on an op-shopping trip, we would be happy to reimburse you.

We look forward to welcoming you to our performance of Demeter and Persephone on Thursday, 11th September at 6:30pm.

Morning Circle

For this Main Lesson, each day has begun with full body movement of timetables patterns and breathing exercises, grounding us and setting a calm, focused tone for the singing ahead. A number of songs will be performed in the play, so there has been much opportunity (on top of learning lines) for memory strengthening. The children have been singing in both rounds and harmonies, requiring great concentration to hold their parts and preserve the beauty of the whole piece.  The class will perform one of these songs at next Monday’s assembly if you would like to get a sneak peek before the play.

Literacy

This week in Main Lesson, our literacy focus has been on developing students’ understanding of sentence structure, particularly learning to identify and work with ‘flipped’ sentences. These are sentences where the usual word order is reversed for effect or emphasis. The class has been practising how to use commas correctly in these types of sentences, helping to build clarity and confidence in their writing.

Mathematics

Our mathematical explorations have continued this week with a focus on angles. The children have been learning to identify and work with complementary, supplementary, and vertically opposite angles. This area of study has also provided a valuable opportunity for students to strengthen their mental calculation skills through regular practice and problem-solving. Looking ahead, we’re excited to begin a new unit on fractions next week.

We look forward to seeing you all at the play!
