Art

It has been such a busy start to term three. Students were very productive getting the NAIDOC plaques made using airdried clay. We firstly experimented with a salt dough that students made but this proved challenging and not very successful. We then switched to different brands of air-dried clay experimenting with the different plaques with traditional Aboriginal designs. Some students even had time to create finger knitting to finish their mobile.
The students have been so excited to start exploring wet and dry felting. We started by discussing the different types of felting and the different forms that students could use to create their forms. Each year level decided on a theme and a shape to use. Students were taught needle felting and wet felting, using a resist that is soft and flexible. Sketchbooks were used to develop and refine their images and ideas before needle felting the first wool layer. Students selected colours and patterns to bring their animal form to life. Students found it challenging to use sharp felting needles, but careful, slow and precise needle work proved to be very rewarding. For the rest of the term students will be wet felting their wool forms and adding the final details by either stitching or needle felting onto their design.
We are thrilled to announce that our artworks will be on display during the Parent Run Arts Festival. If you would like to be involved, see the Compass post.
The date has been set for Saturday 8th November, week 6 term 4.
We can’t wait to celebrate the creativity and talent of our students with you. We hope to see you there!
