SIBLINGS AJAY AND ANUSHKA MEHTA’S SUMMER SUCCESS IN CRICKET

Ajay Mehta of Year 9 finished a great Junior Rep cricket season, representing J.G. Craig U15s for Brighton and winning the tournament.  Ajay is now a grand final winner in the VIC Sub District Cricket tournament; U15 JG Craig Shield.

Selected to play for Brighton and placing as runner up last year, the team were undefeated throughout the tournament. They won in a nail-biting finish against Melton with Ajay taking wickets.

Meanwhile, sibling, Anushka Mehta of Year 8 also shone in an outstanding (and dominating) performance in the U15 Marg Jennings Cup.

Anushka finished as the leading run scorer across the tournament with 271 at an average of 45.17. She had a high score of 83 against Melbourne. She also pitched in with 12 wickets.

Anushka’s achievements:

⭐️ Ranked 1st in leading run scorers

⭐️ Ranked 3rd in leading wicket takers

⭐️ Awarded the Raelee Thompson Medal for Player of the Final

When interviewed by the club Anushka had the following insights to offer…

“It was a great competition, and I had a chance to play amongst the best girls from all premier clubs. The competition helped me to improve my capabilities, and I was provided with ample opportunities to showcase my capabilities.

Thank you to Bentleigh Cricket Club for supporting me in my cricket journey since I was young and to Prahran Cricket Club for selecting me for Marg Jennings.

My advice to young cricketers is to attend all training sessions to learn from your coaches. Play in challenging competitions and especially in mixed/boys competitions to build more confidence. Take advantage of all the clinics run by Bentleigh Cricket Club during the season and holidays as they are a great way to improve your skills.”  Anushka Mehta

Congratulations Ajay and Anushka on exceptional individual performances and a highly successful cricket season.
