INTERMEDIATE GIRLS CRICKET

McKinnon Secondary School’s Cricket team put on a spectacular display in their latest match on Monday 17 February against Parkdale, delivering a dominant performance with both bat and ball.

Batting first, McKinnon piled on an incredible 183 runs without losing a wicket, showcasing skill, patience, and power-hitting in equal measure. The opening pair remained unbeaten, frustrating the opposition and setting an imposing target.

In response, Parkdale struggled against McKinnon’s disciplined bowling attack. Early breakthroughs saw them reeling at 100 for 5, unable to build momentum against tight lines and sharp fielding.

With such a commanding performance, McKinnon’s cricket team continues to prove they are a force to be reckoned with this season!

INTERMEDIATE BOYS CRICKET

Intermediate Boys Cricket was played in great spirits at Caulfield Park on Monday 17 February.

The boys played some great games in their pool and managed to progress to the final for the day. Some excellent batting and a well-rounded bowling attack saw McKinnon become the Kingston Champions. Some highlights for the day were Archer Hankin (Year 10) hitting 3 sixes in a row and a couple of great bowling displays from Ayan Arya (Year 10).

The boys progress to the next round in October.

Congratulations boys!

SENIOR GIRLS CRICKET

On a hot summer's day, the Senior Girls Cricket team prepared for their first game against Bentleigh SC in 35 degrees! After winning the toss and opting to bat, Gloris George (Year 12) and Subira Seymour (Year 11) smashed the bowlers for 75 from just under 8 overs together. With some solid bowling from McKinnon, notably Olivia Smith (Year 11) with 2 early wickets, Bentleigh were restricted to only 27 runs, giving McKinnon a 48-run win!

The McKinnon girls were then tasked with the challenge of beating Beaumaris in the second game, who have a handful of cricketing weapons! McKinnon batted first and sadly lost a few wickets early. Subira Seymour and Shauna Enwright (Year 12) played key roles in getting McKinnon to 39 runs but sadly Beaumaris were able to get those runs in 4 overs, winning the day. McKinnon brought the energy and the vibes and played some good cricket. We had a great day!

SENIOR BOYS CRICKET

The McKinnon Senior Boys had an enjoyable time at Caulfield Reserve despite the heat. In a quirk of the fixture and results, we actually defeated the eventual champions, Parkdale in the pool games.

As a result of three teams being tied for first, we ultimately placed 2nd based on our run rate and missed the opportunity to play off in the final. The boys played the day in extremely high spirits, and no doubt will be a lasting memory for many of the Year 12s in the class of 2025.

ROCK UP BASKETBALL

Our first set of lunchtime activities have begun with the Year 7s enjoying Rock Up Basketball.

Despite the soaring heat for our 1st session, we still had all six courts filled with keen Year 7 students playing Basketball in a king of the court competition. Students were able to play with existing friends and had the opportunity to meet new friends as they played in a 4-game half court tournament.

Our 2nd session saw the Year 7s play some full court games, with students showcasing their basketball talents and working with new people. Many thanks to Abby Hayman of Year 12 who gave up her lunchtime to referee the games.

Rock Up Basketball will continue on Mondays and Thursdays on the multi-courts during lunchtimes for the next two weeks. We will then move onto a House Volleyball competition.

Keep an eye on the compass newsfeed and listen to the lunchtime announcements to know what is going on.

The McKinnon Magic was on display with hundreds of students joining in with the party atmosphere and performing some amazing skills in their solos and creating the longest Conga line ever!
