TIPS FOR READING MORE THIS YEAR
Evidence shows the great benefits that come from reading. From reducing stress, to getting a better night’s sleep, reading has benefits for mental health and wellbeing. Further to this, reading keeps your mind sharp and increases your knowledge and world view.
Here’s some suggestions on how to read more this year:
Start small - Set a daily goal in terms of pages or chapters or in terms of minutes set aside for reading.
Make reading part of your routine. Commit to reading when travelling or before bed.
Get comfy.
Partake in reading challenges. Good Reads has an annual reading challenge.
Keep track of what you are reading. Create your bookshelf on Good Reads
Make a TBR (To be read list) and have your next book on stand-by.
Borrow reading time from something less important.
Ask friends, teachers and library staff for book recommendations.
Try a new genre.
Search for book lists. (Must read books, best of a genre etc)
BOOK OF THE WEEK
Into the Wild by Hayley Lawrence
Genre: Adventure
Best suited to 13+
Five teens set out into the Blue Mountains, determined to win a survival competition that will get them to the base camp of Mt Everest. As a team they must read maps, build fires and trek through dangerous terrain. This adventure story depicts people challenging themselves and how people react differently in tough situations. With themes of grief, mountaineering, survival skills, and teamwork this is an intense survival story.
