Celebrating Our Heritage Day Mass
Our College community gathered for our annual Heritage Day Mass, a joyful celebration of the rich story, traditions and values that have shaped Loreto over generations.
Together, we gave thanks for the women who have gone before us, particularly Mary Ward, Teresa Ball, Mother Gonzaga Barry and the countless Loreto Sisters, staff, students and families whose faith, courage and commitment continue to inspire our community today.
This year's Mass invited us to reflect on our shared heritage, reminding us that our story is not simply something we remember, but something we are called to live each day.
As we celebrate our past, we also look to the future as people of hope. Heritage Day reminds us that each member of our community contributes to the continuing story of Loreto. By living our values in our classrooms, relationships and service to others, we honour the legacy we have inherited and help shape the future for those who will follow.
Thank you to our students, staff, musicians, and Fr Chris Jenkins SJ, who contributed to making this a meaningful celebration of our shared heritage.
Year 12 Retreat
This week, our Year 12 students spent two days together at their Year 12 Retreat at Nunyara in Belair. This was a significant milestone in their lives, providing a unique opportunity for reflection and valuable time together.
The girls spent time considering their future selves, contemplating their spiritual journeys, and the influence of God in their lives. They reflected on how being a Loreto girl has shaped them, considering the legacy of Mary Ward, and how her example inspires them to embody her values in whichever path they choose. The students heard from Sylvia Nugyen, who shared her faith journey and led the girls in an activity that called them to consider their own journeys. This time spent together allowed the Year 12 students to deepen their understanding of themselves and their faith, setting a foundation for the future Mary Ward people that they will become.
Mary Ward Connect
It was with great excitement that we sent 16 students, accompanied by four members of staff, to visit Loreto College Ballarat and Loreto Kirribilli, and in turn, we welcomed students and staff from our sister schools to Marryatville, as part of the Mary Ward Connect school exchange program. The program's mission is to strengthen the Mary Ward ethos and to build connections and friendships between the schools. Throughout their time at Loreto, our visiting students quickly became part of our community thanks to the support of their wonderful Marryatville buddies.
Our guests embraced College life, participated in classes and co-curricular activities, such as baking the famous Loreto bread, and formed meaningful connections with their host buddies. Stay tuned for some reflections coming soon!
