Leadership season at Loreto

Leadership selection is one of the most visible moments in the life of a school, and this year's leadership season has been no exception. From its very beginning, our Year 11 students have approached the process with courage, enthusiasm and a genuine love for their College.

Our Leadership Day in the first week of term provided Year 11 students with the opportunity to hear from College leaders, Year 12 student leaders and Old Scholars, each offering a different perspective on what leadership might look like. Through presentations, panel discussions, workshops and reflections, students were challenged to see leadership not as a position to attain, but as a daily commitment to personal integrity, the courage to take responsibility, and the willingness to influence and inspire others through acts of service, both large and small.

That understanding was reflected throughout this year's application process. Our girls’ written applications were marked by honesty and self-reflection. Rather than presenting polished lists of leadership qualities, students wrote candidly about their strengths, the areas in which they continue to grow, and the ways they hope to contribute meaningfully to the lived expression of our College values.

This same authenticity was evident in our Head Girl speeches. While it can be easy to fall back on familiar leadership clichés or lists of desirable qualities, this year's speeches resisted easy platitudes. They were deeply personal, grounded in genuine reflection and shaped by the unique experiences of each girl. It's difficult to capture the atmosphere in the room, but what stood out was a genuine understanding that leadership begins with character and self-awareness, but takes shape when we uplift and strengthen the community beyond ourselves.

Congratulations to every student who has stepped forward this year, and to those who continue to quietly (or loudly) encourage their peers behind the scenes!
