Track and Field State Finals – Monday the 21st of October 

On Monday, 21st November, a group of talented MGC athletes represented our school at the State Athletics Championships, competing across 10 track and field events. Our athletes displayed incredible skill, determination, and sportsmanship, bringing home outstanding results.

 

Field Event Highlights 

Heidi Duncan competed in four events: Javelin, Discus, Long Jump, and Triple Jump. She delivered an outstanding performance in Discus, throwing a remarkable 28.95m and securing 2nd place in the state. Heidi also achieved a fantastic result in Javelin, throwing 27.89m to earn 3rd place overall. Her skill and commitment were evident in every event.

Ella Duncan competed in the Under 16 High Jump and performed exceptionally, reaching an impressive height of 1.55m. This strong result earned her 2nd place in the state.

Track Event Highlights 

April Penaia competed in the Under 15 1500m event, running a solid 6:01:14 and finishing in 11th place.Octavia Farfaglia showcased her incredible endurance and form in both the Under 13 800m and 1500m events. She won the 800m with an incredible time of 2:27:49 and later placed 2nd in the 1500m, clocking in at 5:45:00. Octavia’s performances were remarkable, showing her strength across both events.

 

Kaile Walkley ran in the Under 13 400m, completing the race in 1:07:70 and earning an impressive 7th place. 

 

The day concluded with an exciting Under 17 4 x 100m relay featuring Sienna De Kretser, Ella Duncan, Ava Renton, and Erin Penaia. The team displayed excellent teamwork, with Sienna’s strong start, smooth baton changes by Ava and Ella, and a determined final leg by Erin. Their collective efforts led to a fantastic time of 56.51, placing them 7th in the state.

Year 8 Basketball Regional Finals - Thursday the 24th of October 

On Thursday, 24th October, our Year 8 Basketball team competed in the Regional Finals at Mill Park. The team, made up of Lotte Kyoong, Lilla Kyoong, Arta Jakupi, Lacey Nicolaci, Ellie Nichols, Charlize Hazel, and Sara LoPresti, displayed remarkable skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the day.

 

Our Year 8 Basketball team delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 Regional Finals, showcasing determination, skill, and excellent teamwork throughout the tournament. Facing strong and competitive teams, they excelled in every match of their pool.

 

The first game was against Montmorency, which was a close game. MGC secured a hard-fought victory, winning 32–28, setting the tone for a competitive day ahead. The second match was against Gladstone Park with unwavering focus, the team continued their momentum and claimed a solid 22–16 win against Gladstone Park. Our third game was against Coburg with our students demonstrating strong offensive and defensive play. MGC defeated Coburg 42–9 in an impressive display of teamwork. With these remarkable victories, our Year 8s advanced to the final match, poised and ready to face their final opponent, Mt Ridley.

 

The final against Mt Ridley was intense and challenging. Our team displayed resilience, skill, and teamwork, impressing everyone with their resilience and teamwork. MGC finished the game with the final score 15–27 with our 8 Basketball Team being named the 2025 Regional Runner-Up Champions.
