Assistant Principals' Report

Rachel Robertson - Years 7 & 8

It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm from our Year 7 students as they submitted their applications to become Junior Ambassadors for next year. This keen interest highlights their eagerness to embrace leadership opportunities and truly embody our school motto: Lead and Achieve! In addition, Year 7 students recently had the unique opportunity to engage in a creative writing workshop with acclaimed young adult author, Nova Weetman. The session was filled with valuable insights and inspiration, sparking excitement among our young writers.

For our Year 8 students, anticipation was high as they prepared for their camp this week. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Year 8 Level Leaders, Emily Miller and Hannah Grice, along with Katelyn and Marilyn, for their dedicated work on cabin arrangements, activity groupings, bus schedules, and timetables. Their meticulous planning ensures that the program is enjoyable and enriching for every student. Additionally, Year 8 students have an NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) excursion to look forward to when they are not on camp, adding another layer of excitement to their schedule.

We are proud of the vibrant energy and involvement shown by our students and staff alike, and we look forward to the wonderful experiences these opportunities will bring.

Katherine Warriner - Years 9 & 10

Term 4 continues to be filled with events and activities for students. The Year 10 Outdoor Education students have just returned from their surf camp and the Year 9 Outdoor Education students will head off for their Great Ocean Walk camp next week. Year 10 students have less than a week left of classes before exams, Headstart and Work Experience finish of their year. We encourage all Year 10 students to participate fully in all these activities to help prepare them for their VCE studies and life beyond MGC.

I had the privilege of attending the Year 9/10 Performance evening this week where I saw a number of talented students entertain the audience with their musical and acting abilities. This can be a daunting experience for our younger students, and they rose to the challenge. Well done to all the students who performed and the staff members who nurture their talents.

Kate Nicholls - Years 11 & 12

The VCE students are currently in the midst of exams. VCAA exams are well underway and Year 11 exams are just beginning. The study centre is filled with studying students, a buzz of anticipation and for many of the year 12s the excitement of having finally completed their final exams. These few weeks mark an important milestone in the students academic journey.  As we approach the end of the year, preparations for the 2025 academic year are also underway, with HeadStart programs starting soon to give students preparation for their 2025 studies.

Last weekend we had another successful Rowing Ergathon that I was lucky enough to be a part of. A big thank you to everyone involved in the Rowing Ergathon on October 19th, an overnight fundraising event that saw 130 students rowing in shifts on the ergs. This impressive effort raised funds for the rowing program and showcased the incredible teamwork and dedication of our students. Special thanks to the parents who volunteered their time to cook dinner, prepare snacks, and provide breakfast for the participants and coaches. Your support helped make this event a huge success!
